Getting Started in Community Court

Referrals for Community Court come through the Seattle City Attorney's Office. A list of eligible charges is below:

*Eligibility for Property Destruction and Theft (unrecovered/damaged property):

• For any crime that has restitution, the participant must pay restitution prior to the end of the Community Court Agreement term
• Employee theft is not eligible for Community Court (without SCAO Supervisor Approval)

Once a participant opts into Community Court, they will first have an assessment with a pre-trial counselor to determine which connections they will need to make for Community Court. Currently, these assessments are being conducted over the phone.

Pre-trial counselors are available during the court calendar to conduct these assessments. However, if a participant is interested in conducting this assessment prior to their hearing, Pre-Trial Counselors are available between 8-9 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. They also have availability during regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.). To schedule an assessment in advance of a hearing, attorneys should contact Pre-Trial Services at SMC_CC@seattle.gov with the participant's name, case number, and a phone number where the participant can be reached.

Attorneys, please note that only presumptively-eligible participants are able to conduct these assessments prior to their opt-in hearings.

Community Service

Due to COVID-19, participants are given the option of attending a Life Skills or other available remote class in place of in-person community service. Please speak with a pre-trial counselor for more information.
